YAKIMA, Wash- Despite some recent controversy, the Yakima City Council started off Tuesday night's meeting as they always do, with a prayer.
In November the city received a letter objecting to prayer during council meetings. The letter indicated that legal action would follow if it continued. During Monday night's executive session, the council received legal advice about the issue. They are in the process of the deciding how to proceed.
The council's options include doing nothing and allowing those opposed to the praying make the next move, or modifying their own behavior. Several community members spoke in support of the prayer during today's meeting.
