City of Richland trying to bring Trader Joe's to Tri-Cities

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, Wash. -- Richland's Economic Development Office is working to bring a Trader Joe's to the community.

Trader Joe's is a specialty retail grocery store, based in California, with stores in nine states. Richland's 2009 Community Survey included the question, "What businesses/services/opportunities not currently available in Richland would your household like to have here?" The third most common response was Trader Joe's, behind more places to eat and more retail shopping. Trader Joe's was the most common specific response.
Richland Marketing Specialist Sally Lim is working to find out what it takes to attract a Trader Joe's. "We feel we can definitely provide a market for their products," she said.

"We would love to have Trader Joe's in Richland, but we will be happy with one anywhere in the Tri-Cities because we promote quality of life for the whole Tri-Cities community," she added.

Lim encourages area residents to join the city's efforts "to let Trader Joe's know we are serious about wanting them in the Tri-Cities."
To do so, you can visit the company's website; choose Contact Trader Joe's, Location Requests and Show Me the Form. Two locally created Facebook pages are also encouraging the addition of a Trader Joe's in the Tri-Cities: Trader Joe's Tri-Cities and I Want a Trader Joe's in the Tri-cities WA.

Nearly five dozen people have expressed their support via Richland's Facebook page since Friday, when the city posted a message encouraging people to contact Trader Joe's.
