Volunteering with the Red Cross

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Not everyone will be taking a day next Monday off for Martin Luther King Day. Volunteers from the Benton Franklin Chapter of the Red Cross will be out in the community spreading awareness about fire safety and they want your help.

It's part of the 25th annual M.L.K. Day of service. Volunteers at the Red Cross say serving the community is the perfect way to honor the civil rights leader.

Evan Brennan, with the Red Cross says, "we figure everyone has school off. A lot of organizations and businesses are closed that day so what better way to get out in your community when everyone has it off. In remembrance of him we're taking this day to do that."

Volunteers plan to go door to door with fire safety information on Martin Luther King day and also on January 22nd. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to anyone who volunteers.
