PASCO, WA- A man about to stand trial for murder refused to come out of his jail cell today for a court appearance.
Franklin county sheriff's deputies lifted up Jose Garcia Morales, shackled him into a wheelchair, and then pushed him into court.
Morales and his brother Ramon are charged with murdering a man and critically wounding his wife in their Pasco home two years ago.
Both brothers have refused to speak or acknowledge their attorneys, who argue the men are mentally unfit to help in their defenses.
State psychologists, however, have declared both men competent to stand trial.
The county is paying former prosecutor Steve Lowe to remain as lead counsel.
