VP of NIKE Jordan Brand inspires students in Hermiston
HERMISTON, Ore. -- Hermiston High School, and its leadership organizations, DECA and FCCLA welcomed Howard White, VP of NIKE Inc. Jordan Brand founder at their school.
"Motivating people, giving people the reality of what they can do," said White of his reason of being there.
White is also the founder of "Believe and Achieve," a national NIKE Youth Movement.
13 students from the school got to pick his brain, ask him questions about leadership, success, failures, and the drive to get there. Howard said it's important to set goals, write them down and then write down what you're willing to sacrifice to get there. He said fear is natural but to not let it get in the way of doing your best every day.
"Knowing what your goals are and how just believing in yourself ...He says most of the part is listening to people and knowing what your purpose in life is," says Nayeli Ruiz, a sophomore.
Students also asked questions about White's book, "Believe to Achieve: See the Invisible, Do the Impossible."
White then spoke to 550 students in the auditorium. Hermiston High School invited students from neighboring schools, Stanfield, Umatilla, Helix and RiverBend.
Then at 6:00pm, White was the keynote speaker at HHS. Tickets for the dinner were $25 and the money raised went to fund leadership opportunities for students in the HHS Career and Technical Education Programs.
