The Portland Winterhawks (33-15-0-3) had their six-game winning streak snapped in Friday a 5-2 loss on the road to the Tri-City Americans (30-13-2-1), who got a hat trick from captain Kruise Reddick.
Reddick scored twice in the first period, including one on a power play, to give Tri-Cities a 2-0 lead going into the second period.
Adam Hughesman made it 3-0 for Tri-Cities with a goal on a breakaway at the 11:22 mark, followed by Reddick's hat trick goal late in the period to make it 4-0. It was also Reddick's second power play goal of the game.
Portland got on the board 5:12 into the third when Brad Ross scored a power play goal to make it 4-1. But the Americans regained the four-goal lead when Connor Rankin scored at the 9:14 mark to make it 5-1. Nino Niederreiter gave Portland their second power play goal of the night when he scored with the man advantage at the 13:14 mark to make it 5-2, which would stand as the final.
Mac Carruth made 32 saves on Tri-Cities' 37 shots, while his counterpart Drew Owsley stopped 32 of Portland's 34 shots for the Americans.
