Car hits two teens at Wapato crosswalk, killing one and injuring the other
WAPATO, Wash. – A car hit two teenagers Friday night on State Route 97 as they were crossing along W. Wapato Road killing one and injuring the other before fleeing the scene.
The driver of a 2004 Toyota Pickup had a green light as he was coming up to the traffic light on SR-97 around 11:20 p.m. Washington State Patrol says the two teenagers did not obey the crosswalk signal.
Shaniah Jackson, 14, died at the scene and a 16-year-old boy was taken to Yakima Regional Cardiac and Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.
WSP later found the pickup abandoned a mile away from the accident. Troopers have yet to file any charges.
