White Out at Central Wednesday vs. SPU

Posted: Updated:

ELLENSBURG, Wash. --  The two men's teams atop the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) basketball standings square off Wednesday night in Ellensburg, when the Central Washington University Wildcats host the Seattle Pacific University Falcons.

Making it an even bigger contest, this will be the first game ever broadcast live from Nicholson Pavilion on FSN Northwest. It will reach an audience of an estimated 3.7 million viewers. The FSN GNAC Game of the Week will tip-off at 7 p.m.

"This is great chance for basketball fans all across the Northwest to see the Wildcats in action," said Greg Sparling, now in his 16th season as CWU's head coach. "But we also want Nicholson Pavilion filled to the rafters to show school spirit and prove that we have the best fans in the Northwest."

In addition, all CWU fans in attendance are asked to wear white to create a "White Out" atmosphere. To aid that cause, the first 400 Central students through the gate will receive free "White Out" T-shirts. In addition, CWU students are encouraged to pick up free advance game tickets at the Wildcat Shop in the Student Union and Recreation Center on campus.

The eleventh-ranked Wildcats, also the top team in the NCAA Division II West Region poll, are now on a season-long, nine-game winning streak. They are 18-2 overall and 11-1 in GNAC play. Central has a 1 1/2-game lead in the conference standings over Seattle Pacific University. The Falcons are on an eight-game winning streak. Now 16-5 on the season, and 10-3 in GNAC games, SPU's last loss came to Central 72-68 in Seattle on Jan. 13.

The Wednesday game will be the 113th meeting between the two schools. CWU has won 67 of the previous contests, including 37 of the 50 played in Ellensburg. In the GNAC pre-season coaches poll, SPU was the favorite to win the conference, with CWU second.
