YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. -- The Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation will soon launch their Motor Vehicle Registration Program.
The program will be available to enrolled tribal members by March.
Each person will receive a certificate of registration and two sets of Yakama Nation license plates, along with month and year expiration decals for their vehicles.
The pilot group will be subject to a verification process to ensure compliance with applicable laws.
Each license plate will feature the words "Yakama Nation" written across the top and "Treaty of 1855" along the bottom of the plate.
Those with registered vehicles will be able to travel on all public roads across the United States, without any state-issued plates or registration.
