YAKIMA, Wash. -- A Stage 1 burn ban was declared for Upper Yakima County Thursday morning, due to poor air quality.
David Caprile, Yakima Regional Clean Air Agency, says the agency will continue to monitor the air quality. All outdoor and agricultural burning are prohibited. The use of fireplaces and wood stoves and fire inserts are not allowed, unless it's your home's only source of heat. All violations of the county's burn ban are subject to civil penalties.
According to the YRCAA, monitor level for Yakima is "unhealthy" at Yellow, and Toppenish is "good" at Green. The ban excludes Yakama Nation Reservation lands.
