KENNEWICK, Wash.—KNDU spoke with a number of local florists, and they all say they've had to order more flowers which means business is up from last year.
A big reason is Valentine's Day falls on a weekday. When the holiday is on the weekend people typically celebrate by taking a vacation or going out to dinner in replace of flowers.
One local florist says people are spending about $50.00 to $75.00. Red roses are the most popular. She also says their sales will skyrocket on Valentine's Day when last minute stragglers search for their perfect gift.
If you are a last minute shopper there are a few things to keep in mind. First, Monday will be the most popular day to buy gifts and flowers; therefore, don't expect delivery to be an option. Also, don't assume internet shopping will be the answer.
"If they are real specific to what they want we may not even have those flowers, and we haven to take the time to call them back. So, call your florist, don't just put it on the internet," says Jackie Brown, Shelby's Floral Owner.
Brown says balloons, stuffed animals and chocolate are also big sellers. She says Valentine's Day is their biggest one-day holiday.
