A new scam is hitting Franklin PUD customers and workers are asking you to watch out for key warning signs.
They say each check sent out to customers always shows the same amount of $3,920.00. Along with the check in the mail comes a letter stating you've won a prize worth $55,000.
As you read continue to read, it tells you about the enclosed check as part of your winnings. But before you get any actual money you must pay $2,800 in return. To do that, it gives you a phone number to call where there will be someone on the other line who asks for your personal information.
"With the letter they send this bogus check for $3,920 that is drawn on our account and they ask them to cash it to help pay for the $2,800 cost," Tim Nies of Franklin PUD said.
Workers do say Franklin PUD has controls in place through their bank to make sure no checks are actually cashed. But they are warning people about this scam so you don't give out personal information.
