KENNEWICK, WA-For the next couple of weeks, school children throughout the Mid-Columbia will wax poetic with a local author.
Kenn Nesbitt has written several poetry books for children, including More Bears and My Hippo Has the Hiccups.
Nesbitt says a poem doesn't necessarily have to be funny to interest kids, but it helps.
"I write funny poems, because I find that's a really good way to engage children," Nesbitt says. "But it doesn't have to be funny as long as it fires up the imagination, gets them to voluntarily want to read. That's a good poem."
Nesbitt, 49, lives in Spokane. Before he turned full time author, he worked at Microsoft as a data base developer.
