Saturday night fire in Yakima ruled "reckless burning"
YAKIMA, Wash. - A fire Saturday night at the Old Schultz Furniture Store was considered an example of reckless burning, according to the Yakima Fire Department.
Crews responded to smoke coming from near the intersection of 4th Ave. and Yakima Ave. around 8:40 p.m. They found the front of the furniture store located at 7 N. 5th Ave. on fire but were able to control it from outside.
A sprinkler system prevented the fire from spreading but crews remained on scene for two to three hours to confirm it was out and determine the cause.
YFD says a warming fire ignited the wood siding and spread above it. Total damages are estimated at $100,000.
