Fresh off a national championship win in Las Vegas, one local cheer team is back in the gym training for the next big cheer competition now only a week away.
"We really wanted it and practiced really hard to get it," cheerleader Michael Dougherty said about their recent championship win.
"They just announced our name and we were so surprised and wondering...did this really happen after ten years?" Senior cheerleader Chistie Messinger said.
After nearly 10 years since this the Mid Columbia Elite Force Cheer Team was founded in the Tri-Cities, and after two hour practices each day along with injuries, smiles, and everything in between, they've seen it all to get to this point.
"When I started down here and I started the gym program, it was a hard sell to tell everyone we were not cheering for a team. We were actually a team ourselves," Elite Cheer Director Chrissy Berglund said.
They are a team comprised of high school athletes from all over the area, and a team that is taking their first national championship win to propel them forward.
Next stop... another national competition in Orlando, Florida.
