Governor Gregoire doesn't feel lucky on St. Pat's Day

KENNEWICK, WA-Washington Governor Gregoire says she doesn't expect much luck on this Saint Patrick's Day.

That's when the state revenue forecast comes out.

In the Tri-Cities Thursday, Gregoire says with rising gas prices and the struggling housing market affecting consumer confidence, the state will face another budget deficit of more than five billion dollars in 2013.

The Governor says every agency will be affected, including education.

"We're going to have to have education step up and pay its fair share, but not more than its fair share," Gregoire says. "It can take just so much and we're going to compromise quality and we can't afford to do that."

The governor points to innovation schools such as Richland's Delta High School as ways to improve the current education system, and better prepare students to compete globally.

Delta focuses on math, science and technology.
