RICHLAND, Wash. -- The Tri City Democrats invited the board chair for Grace Clinic to speak at their monthly meeting Friday night.
Mark Brault spoke to the group about how the healthcare overhaul will affect the Kennewick clinic, which is for people who don't have insurance or an ability to pay.
He says there won't be an impact until 2014 when more people are eligible for Medicaid and for private insurance, and then they'll see a decline in people who are eligible for the clinic.
Because Grace is a private clinic, completely supported by private donations, Brault says there's always a need for support.
"The need outstrips the capacity. Our patient load last year was up 16%, but the number of people we had to turn away was up 25%, so there's always a need for more help," said Brault.
Grace Clinic is the second largest free clinic in the state.
