Yakima dancers compete to meet "So You Think We Can Dance" Judge
YAKIMA, Wash. – The YWCA of Yakima invited local dancers Saturday to compete for a chance to perform in front of celebrity choreographer Mary Murphy.
Three judges with a background in dance selected 30 performers to take part in the "Mary Murphy Dance Showcase" at the Capitol Theatre. Murphy is a judge on TV's "So You Think You Can Dance" and will be in town later this month to speak at a YWCA luncheon.
"We thought what a great opportunity for local dancers to really push themselves," said Erin Black of the YWCA. "[They will] go outside of their comfort zone and be able to perform in front of a nationally known choreographer and dance professional."
Finalists will be announced Sunday by the YWCA for the showcase. Mayor Micah Cawley will emcee the event and Murphy will be joined by three other judges from Yakima.
Tickets are $10 for the event on March 20 at 4:00 p.m. For more information call (509) 248-7796.
