YAKIMA, Wash. – Yakima Police arrested a 23-year-old man early Sunday morning for multiple charges including assault after a SWAT team had to end a standoff that lasted several hours.

Police received a report about a boyfriend threatening to kill his 27-year-old girlfriend at the Lake Aspen Apartments on the 1700 block of River Road around 1:20 a.m.

After officers surrounded the location and were unable to make contact with anyone inside the apartment, the SWAT team was called to the scene.

The victim was able to escape with her five-year-old child while police tried to negotiate with the boyfriend by phone.

Hours later the SWAT team entered the apartment and took the man into custody. He was booked into Yakima County Jail on charges of assault with a weapon and unlawful imprisonment.
