Richland Baseball has Odd Luck

Posted: Updated:

Richland, WA---

Richland high school baseball is the three time defending state champ, in odd years. Bombers winning in 2005, '07, '09.  Once again, it's an odd year 2011.  Meaning Richland's on the look out for an unusual four-peat.

Richland High senior baseball player Zach Rapacz said, "We've thought about it. This will probably be our year then. Odd year."

Fellow senior Cody Poznanski added, "It's what a lot of people like to talk about, since it follows the theme they think that we will too."

Another senior Jarrod Turner said, "Kind of be a cool story to keep going on I guess."

Head coach Ben Jacobs added, "Yeah. Actually I was thinking about that the other day, but who knows that's just a coincidence that we've won those years."

Coincidence. Maybe. Richland has been to the final four in state five of the last six seasons. Walking away with three rings. Last year the Bombers made it to the title game, only to fall just short. Richland returns 8 position players from that team, and one in the group certainly represents the odd theme. Failure to color coordinate.

Turner said, "There he is number two back there... He can't color coordinate to save his life in school anyway."

Rapacz said about his failure to match colors correctly, "Probably haven't learned that yet. Just kind of mix and match what I can find."

Oddities and all, Richland begins its run at a fourth straight odd year championship Thursday at home against Mount Spokane.
