Missing Ellensburg man found dead after nearly nine months
KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. – The body of a missing man was recovered almost nine months after he disappeared, the Kittitas County Sheriff's Office arrest his brother-in-law Friday for murder.
Russell Ray's body was recovered on March 10 near the Old Vantage Highway 18 miles East of Ellensburg. Ray, 54, was last seen on June 21, 2010 when he was dropped off at his home on Look Road.
Two days later a missing report was filed and deputies began a preliminary investigation. They found evidence of a violent struggle and injury. Detectives and a state crime lab team started collecting evidence and spoke with neighbors, friends, and family members in the following months.
Christopher Foley, 38, became a person of interest because there were inconsistencies in the information he provided. He is Ray's brother-in-law and lives in the neighboring area. They worked together on construction projects in the past.
Ray's remains were transferred to the King County Medical Examiner's Office on Tuesday. Other evidence was taken to the state crime lab. The cause of death may be blunt force trauma, according to a preliminary examination.
Detectives arrested Foley after meeting him on Friday and he is in the Kittitas County Jail pending murder charges. He will appear in Kittitas County Superior Court on Monday.
