RICHLAND, Wash. -- A Richland man is behind bars after police say he held a woman hostage and took them on a pursuit.
Richland Officers responded to the 1600 block of Goethals on a disturbance call in which the male suspect, 32 year old Jonathan P. Smith, was reported to be distraught over loosing his job and breaking windows at his residence.
Police say Smith left before they arrived, but officers were told he was carrying two rifles and a pistol.
A West Richland PD Officer spotted Smith as he pulled up to Lee's Market at 5720 W. Van Giesen and went inside with a tote bag full of laundry.
The store's owner, Hyang Lee says he showed her his gun and told her to stay in the back of the store because the police were after him. She says she pushed a cart towards him and ran out the back door.
Police say that's when Smith tried to drive away, leading officers on a pursuit west through West Richland.
Police caught up to him at a private yard where officers arrested him.
Smith was booked into the Benton County Jail on charges of Kidnapping, Felony Assault, Eluding police and possession of three fire arms.
