OSU students trade traditional spring breaks for service work in Yakima
YAKIMA, Wash- A group of Oregon State University Students have foregone the traditional Spring Break trip in favor of a community service visit to Yakima.
Ten students with OSU's Community Service Center spent Monday volunteering at the Union Gospel Mission, and the Madison House Youth Center. The students say they picked Yakima because they were told many times that the city has a high crime and poverty rate.
They will spend the rest of the week volunteering with Yakima non-profit organizations including food banks and repairing playground equipment at the South East Community Center.
