Sunnyside Grizzlies Soccer: Hoping This is Their Year
SUNNYSIDE, Wash. -- The Sunnyside Grizzlies' Soccer Team is still undefeated. They knocked off Hanford Tuesday with a 3-1 win. It turns out senior Alfredo Gomez had a hat trick, scoring all three goals for the Grizz.
At Sunnyside, 6 seniors have been knocking on the door of a state championship for 3 straight years. They have made the the state tournament and reached the quarterfinals once.
"They can help like coaches out there, when I don't see something," said Coach Juan Pineda of the seniors. "They are there for me, so they are able to motivate the kids that play around them, or make the right adjustments."
"We just have to stay focused," said Gomez. "Our team, we have some juniors and we need to get them involved as well, just let them know that this is our year. We need to have them help us out and stay strong as a team, all the way through. Hopefully, we get there."
Sunnyside thinks this is their year to win the ultimate prize. The Grizzlies like to play aggressive and at a fast pace. However, in order to flip the script in the playoffs, the Grizz want to get physical.
"We're trying to get better at using our body and being more physical," said senior Omar Vergara. "That's usually what we've been lacking in the 3 years I've been here."
The Grizzlies 6 seniors have one mission in mind, to get Sunnyside to its first final 4 in state in school history.
