Local cattle ranchers came together Wednesday afternoon to participate in an auction to help the victims of the Japan earthquake. The ranchers placed their bids at the annual Washington Cattlemen's Association Bull Test Sale. They bid on a heifer in order to help gather funds for the nation which is a large customer to the U.S. beef industry.
"We saw this disaster happening in Japan and of course it's kind of tugs at everybody's heart strings to see such a large disaster affect so many people so we just like to help out anyway we can," said Vic Stokes, with the Washington Cattle Association.
Over 300 ranchers from across the state and Northwest participated in the event. They raised over $18,000, and more money is expected to trickle in.
