Second Harvest gives away thousands of pounds of food
Hundreds line up for hours, and thousands of pounds of food is given to those in need during a special Second Harvest food giveaway right outside our studios.
The focus today was to give healthy food to families in need. We also wanted to know why Second Harvest held the event here. Why not just go to a food bank where people expect to get food?
The answer was actually a simple one... Hunger is everywhere.
The director of Second Harvest says they wanted to have this event in the heart of Kennewick, and show how many people would come.
"The perception is if you're not on the east side, you're ok, you're doing just fine for your family, but this is living proof there are people from all over the Tri-Cities in need," Kathye Kilgore of Second Harvest said.
Second Harvest is working to raise two million dollars to build a facility so more fresh food can be stored for longer.
