Doctors worried jail inmate is too dangerous for Eastern State

Posted: Updated:

PASCO,WA- Psychiatrists at Eastern State Hospital don't want a Franklin County jail inmate brought to the hospital.

The doctors say they would rather evaluate Gregorio Luna Luna from inside the jail.

The doctors say they're worried about their safety and the safety of others.

Prosecutors say Luna Luna has tried to make weapons out of mirrors and other objects from inside the jail.

Deputies at the jail say Luna Luna has also dug a hole in an attempt to escape.

Pasco police arrested Luna Luna last May for stabbing to death the mother of his five-year-old son.

The judge will hold a hearing next Thursday when representatives from Eastern State can explain why they don't want Luna Luna evaluated at the hospital.

Luna Luna's attorney describes the request as "unbelievable," arguing the facility is designed and equipped to handle patients considered to be dangerous.
