3 hospitalized in early morning crash on Hwy 97

TOPPENISH, Wash. -- Three people were hospitalized following an early morning crash near Toppenish, Wednesday.

Washington State Patrol troopers say the driver of the SUV, Oscar Hernandez-Nieto, 28, of Toppenish failed to stop and hit a truck at the intersection of Larue Road and Highway 97. It happened around 5:40 a.m. Wednesday.

Troopers say Omar Salvador, 23 and Antonio Esquivel, 18, both from Toppenish, along with Doyle Wetmore, 93, of Naches were taken to a hospital in Toppenish.

A spokesperson for Toppenish Community Hospital says Salvador and Wetmore were treated and released. Esquivel was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and was in satisfactory condition, according to a spokesperson for the hospital.

The accident happened around 5:40 a.m. Wednesday.

Drugs and alcohol did not play a role in the crash, according to Washington State Patrol.
