Atomic City Rollergirls first bout at new home

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.-  The Atomic City Rollergirls are getting ready for their first home game in their new home Saturday.

The team recently signed a three year contract with the Toyota Arena, not to be confused with the Toyota Center next door.  Before this they played home games wherever they could find a venue. A blocker on the team says roller derbies have grown from a fake WWF type show, to an exciting contact sport.

"It's not fake at all like it used to be back in the day. Nobody knows what we're going to do from one second to another. All the hits are real all the injuries are real, it's not staged whatsoever," says Julie Valdez.

The team will battle the North Idaho Roller Dolls Saturday at the Toyota Arena. Doors open at 5 p.m. the bout starts at 6 p.m.
