Traffic light on at SR 240 and Edison St. in Kennewick
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Traffic engineers turned on the new traffic light at State Route 240 and Edison Street in Kennewick Wednesday.
You now have to stop if you're turning left onto Westbound 240 (towards Richland) from Edison and there are two turn lanes there instead of one.
If you're getting off 240 West to go left on Edison, engineers say having a light will help control traffic and make the interchange safer. Corey Hert, Assistant Traffic Engineer for the Washington State Department of Transportation, explains, "Every day, during the busiest times of the day, traffic does back up near the ramp of 240. We're turning on this signal to reduce that backup because we want to reduce the potential for high speed collisions."
Hert says the project cost $65,000. More than 14,000 cars travel through the intersection every day.
