YAKIMA,Wash- 50 to 100 sex offenders in Yakima will be getting letters from the city this month. Tuesday night the city council banned them from public pools. The issue came up when a level-three sex offender had been hanging out at Lions Pool. Police got him to stop coming without any problems, but the city still decided to take action.
"I'm sure they wish this incident will never happen to them but our priorities are with our patron and our children", says Chris Waarnick, public works director for the city of Yakima
The city council invoked the ban based on a state law that allows organizations like schools and cities to ban certain level two and three sex offenders from areas geared for kids. Violators can be arrested for a felony offense.
