Shop owners differ on where duck and unhatched eggs should go
KENNEWICK, Wash. -- There is tension between some shop owners over a mother duck and her eggs.
Should the nest the duck made in a planter be moved or not? Owners of the Treasure Tree consignment shop at Marine Land Village at Clearwater and Edison were warned the duck and her eggs would be moved from their location by other shop owners. According to what the folks at Treasure Tree have heard, objection to the ducks is based hygiene.
"To have the threat of her being taken away in the middle of the night which was what was posed to us is pretty startling and I understand that there might be some issues after the eggs are bothered, but we're trying to take care of that," says Paula Garvin of Treasure Tree consignment shop.
We spoke with one shop owner who wants the duck moved. She says the only reason is because she's afraid they will die when they cross Clearwater Avenue. Fish and wildlife officers say people should leave the birds alone.
