WA Sec. of State Sam Reed plays "Jeopardy" with YVCC students
YAKIMA, Wash. - Secretary of State Sam Reed visited Yakima Valley Community College Friday to play "Jeopardy" with students as part of his statewide college campus civics tour.
Reed is visiting 19 colleges this week and will visit another 9 later this spring. His goal is to get potential voters in the 18-24 age group more engaged in their community and registered.
"It is very important that young people not leave it up to the older set to decide who these leader are going to be but they participate and make a difference," said Reed.
The effort to get college students interested in elections during an off-year is even more essential, according to the Secretary. He wants there to more of an emphasis on local government because elected officials at that level have more of a direct impact on voters than positions for national office.
Reed will resume his civics tour on Thursday, April 28 in Bellevue.
