Community leader honored

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.—A Tri-Cities community leader, Blanca Gonzalez Torres, was honored Friday by the Washington State Senate for her proud contributions to the Latino Community.

Torres co-founded Tu Decides, the Tri-Cities first bilingual Hispanic newspaper.  She also helped create EXPO NorthWest, which holds expositions to bring business from Hispanic and non-Hispanic communities together.

She passed away from a sudden brain aneurysm last August, but friends say her legacy is still alive.

"Her legacy and her dedication of empowering young leaders especially as females... She left an impact in many," says Gracie Valle-Chimal, friend and co-worker.
