Congressman Jay Inslee visits Yakima for democrats' fundraiser
YAKIMA, Wash – Yakima County Democrats hosted U.S. Congressman Jay Inslee Saturday night at their annual FDR dinner and fundraiser inside the Yakima Convention Center.
The event not only raises money for the group but also hopes to energize local democrats about the upcoming political season. It is named after the former president who approved projects that lead to development and growth of eastern Washington in the 20th century.
Mary Stephenson is the chair of the Yakima County Democratic Central Committee. She says its not easy holding the minority viewpoint in the region but nights like the FDR dinner help their group to stay together.
"It's been a lonely kind of thing," she said. "By having an office, by having an organization where we can identify who the democrats are and [have] events that will bring people together."
Inslee currently holds the 1st Congressional District of Washington but previously held the 4th District and served as a state legislator out of Selah.
Various media reports have speculated that Inslee will run for governor next year.
