Retail jobs are booming in the Tri-Cities, especially local retail employment. But there is a bit of bad new: the open positions are usually lower pay and only part-time. That means: no benefits.
The average annual income in retail trade is just over $25,000 which is about a 1% increase over the past couple of years. The industry is still growing. Employment goes up an average of 1.3% a year.
However, a local labor economists says if you're looking for a full-time job with benefits, retail could be a good option if you're willing to wait it out.
Labor Economist, Asja Suljic employees, "The retail industry looks at what experience you have in retail trade and that's how you gain, and you start from the lower level to learning how to do great customer service to making up to working as an hr and supervisor on the floor and off the floor."
Suljic says more people in the Tri-Cities are now sticking it out and working their way to the top.
