First place was up for grabs in the Big 9 4A on Friday afternoon. Both Richland and Walla Walla had yet to lose a game on the diamond in league play entering the double dip. The Blue Devils took game one by a final 2-0, as Walla Walla senior pitcher Drew Christina improved to 8-0 on the season.
In game two, Richland and Walla Walla were tied heading into the bottom of the sixth. That's when the Blue Devils came to life. Scoring ten runs with two outs in the frame to win it 15-4. Senior Jake Campeau had the go ahead sac fly to start the onslaught, and closed it out with a game ending grand slam. To cap off Campeau's incredible afternoon, he was also the game winning pitcher from that game.
Campeau said afterwards, "We're always excited to play Richland. We've been ready for this game all week... And it was tough thinking about school all day and I'm glad we came out and got a sweep. It was really exciting and he gave me a pitch up in the zone and I was just able to put it over the fence."
Walla Walla head coach Keith Gradwohl added, "We knew it might be one of those games were we had to score some runs... So it just turned out that way. Kids clutched up and we didn't want to make the third out there in that inning. That was fun."
