Central Washington Spring Football: Not Forgetting Last Season
ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- It's been one of the toughest off seasons in Central Washington football since head coach Blaine Bennett took over in 2008.
In his 3 seasons at the helm, he's won as many conference titles. Only once has he failed to make the NCAA Playoffs. That happened a year ago when the Cats went 8-3, winning the GNAC but did not receive a postseason invite.
This spring, the Wildcats have been hard at work, using last year's disappointment as motivation.
"It didn't sit very well," said Bennett. "We were 8-3 last year and we did reach that 1st goal of being GNAC champs once again but making a run for the national title is really what this football program is all about."
"That has really been festering this off season," said defensive lineman Andrew Oney. "We're really looking forward to going out there and redeeming ourselves."
"To win your conference and not get in, it's hard but we have to make sure we don't lose close football games and we win every game we can," said defensive lineman Mike Reno. "We need to take it one game at a time and if we don't lose, we'll be in the playoffs."
