UMATILLA COUNTY, Oregon. -- Two days of closed-door negotiations have began in the official misconduct and contempt of court cases for Umatilla County District Attorney Dean Gushwa.
Circuit Court Judge Charles Luukinen, a veteran settlement negotiator out of Polk County is presiding.
Gushwa is accused of intimidating and threatening two women assistants in the district attorney's office into having sexual relations with him., a charge he denies.
Gushwa faces seven charges of official misconduct and 11 counts of contempt of court for allegedly disobeying a judge's order not to have contact with employees in the district attorney's office.
The Oregon Department of Justice will not comment until the negotiations are complete.
