WAPATO, Wash. - The Yakima County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide Tuesday night that witnesses say was the end result of a fight on the street.
Officers with the Wapato Police Department found Javier Garcia, Jr., 27, lying on the road in the 200 block of W. Elizabeth Street around 11:30 p.m.
Garcia had a stab wound to the chest and was treated at the scene before he was taken to Memorial Hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival.
Garcia's family has been notified and autopsy will be scheduled for a later date.
The case was transferred to YSO from WPD and investigators learned that Garcia was attending a party at that address. He fought with someone in the street but no one at the party could identity the other person.
"Our efforts have been diverted towards attempting to identify people who were at a party where the victim has been, in an effort to identify the suspect," Chief Stewart Graham, Yakima Sheriff's Office said.
Garcia's death is the 10th homicide in Yakima County this year.
