Walla Walla native and former Washington State quarterback Drew Bledsoe gave the commencement speech Friday afternoon, during WSU Tri-Cities graduation at the Toyota Center. Before Bledsoe addressed the graduates, he met with a few during a breakfast and at rehearsal.
The 14 year NFL pro seemed at ease during the meet and greet, but don't let his smile fool you. Bledsoe had some nerves going into his first ever commencement speech.
He said, "When you're speaking to graduates... standing up and rehashing old football stories is not really where you want to go... So there will be a little bit of that, but it's more life focused. Yea it's a little nerve racking to be honest with you. It's my first commencement speech, hopefully I don't stumble and stutter around too much. The NFL thing I did that enough times, I kind of felt I knew what I was doing. This one is a little nerve racking... My first crack at a commencement speech."
