PASCO, Wash.—A new plaque will soon hang at the Pasco Farmers Market in honor of a farmer who passed away last September. The family of Joe Diorio, also known as "Papa," received the award Saturday morning at the Pasco Farmers Market.
As a boy, Diorio sold farm food at Pike Place Market in Seattle. Eventually he moved to Pasco and sold produce at the market for more than 20 years.
"He loved the market here, farmed most of his life, loved being around people, loved the atmosphere of the market," says Diorio's son.
Diorio died at the age of 89. He owned Papa Joe's Family Farm in Pasco.
