Yakima Fire Department hosts first ever Firefighters Fair
YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima Fire Department invited the public Saturday to its first ever Firefighters Fair for some fun and to learn more about keeping their families safe.
Growing interest from the public to learn more about what their local department does lead to the creation of the event.
The fair featured live demonstrations of the Jaws of Life and responding to a car fire. Visitors to Station 95 also had the chance to see fire trucks and other department equipment up close.
Lt. Jeremy Rodriguez says the most important takeaway for the public was remembering to have a working smoke detector.
"All of the saves we've had since I've been on for the last 15 years, the one common theme among all of them is they had working smoke detectors," he said. "The fatalities I've been on, I've been on several, they didn't."
The event also raised money for Children's Wishes and Dreams.
