SUNNYSIDE, Wash. - The Sunnyside Fire Department is investigating a large fire that caused millions of dollars in damage.
It happened Sunday morning on Edison Avenue in between 6th and 7th streets. The fire started in the back of the Safari room and spread to another restaurant on its west side. Firefighters say the buildings age likely played a factor in spreading the fire.
"Even though they're separate businesses, the vulnerability for the fire separation was in question because of the numerous remodels he had," said Chief Aaron Markham, from the Sunnyside Fire Department.
The Blue Moon Tavern on the east had minor damages but crews were able to save the building. The response ultimately had 70 firefighters from 11 different agencies between Selah and Prosser. Sunnyside Fire has asked the ATF to help in the investigation because of the large dollar amount of damage.
