The b'LAWg - Rock Lake Producing Browns

Hi folks! It's time to trek 30 miles south of Cheney and fish Rock Lake which has been stocked with nearly 20,000 Rainbow and 24,000 Brown Trout. This lake is bordered by basalt cliffs, run southwest to northeast for about 9 ½ miles (launch on the south end) and is about a mile wide in spots. Much of the shoreline is private, so bank fishing is limited to the boat launch area, which the state leases from a private landowner as well. On this trip, the water was a nice 51° and I managed to land some nice Browns averaging 14-18 inches with a pink/red wedding ring lure attached to the end of my leader. Unfortunately the weather was beginning to turn as the winds picked up and intermittent raindrops fell from the sky.  To put it bluntly…I got a late start, but gladly engaged in some fishing banter/reports with several Rock Lake veterans who were just coming off the water due to the worsening weather conditions. In the end, I was the last guy left on the water.

Observations & Tips: Some of these fellas out here had nice bounties of Browns in their coolers and on their stringers (14-20 inches). Trolling was the method and wedding rings were the staple. Colors ranged from all red, yellow, bright green to my pink/red. Another gentleman swore,"I use nothing else except Brad's cut plugs filled with tuna in oil." He showed me his rigs and posed with ½ dozen nice fish.  "The proof was in the pudding" and I bought a pair of Mountain Dew colored plugs this week…will give them a shot next time I'm out here.
