Yakima River crests at Kiona Benton Wednesday morning
Richland, WASH: - Benton County, under the direction of the Board of Commissioners, declared a Flood Emergency Tuesday afternoon due to flooding along the Yakima River. The declaration allows county agencies to take necessary steps to use emergency purchasing procedures to obtain needed goods and services in a timely manner.
The Yakima River crested at 15.5 feet at the Kiona gauge in Benton City on Wednesday morning. It crested a few hours later in West Richland and Richland. The river is now receding, but is still running high and fast. Be careful around flooded roads.
Van Giesen was closed down to one lane in each direction. There was about an inch of water all the way across, which spread out 100 ft long.
