Tapteal students receive state award for improving reading scores
WEST RICHLAND, WA-The Washington State schools superintendent's office Thursday presented honors and a check for $20,000 to Tapteal Elementary School in West Richland.
The students received academic achievement awards for improving their reading scores.
Marty Campbell, Tapteal's Instructional Specialist, says she knows the school's reading program has been successful because fewer children need to be involved in it.
"Our special programs are beginning to shrink," Campbell says. "We have fewer and fewer students we need to service and so we're able to spread our services into different areas. We're able this year to pick up some math interventions."
Tapteal is one of only four schools in the state to receive the achievement awards.
