Asphalt scam targeting homeowners

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.- The Better Business Bureau wants to remind homeowners about a seasonal asphalt scam.

The scam works like this, a friendly person comes to your door and offers to repave or repair your driveway for a low price. They claim they have left over asphalt from another job, but when they complete the work, it's usually not quality. And by the time the victim realizes their new driveway is falling apart, it's often too late.

"It's our older generation that is doing it because they trust people. You know things used to be done on a handshake and that can't happen anymore, you have to do your research and make sure your dealing with a reputable company," said Norma Miller, with the Better Business Bureau.

Miller says before you do business with any paver make sure to do your research.
