Golfers get in the swing of helping with college tuition
TOPPENISH, Wash. -- Many golfers in Toppenish braved the rain today to give their best swing at helping high school seniors pay for college.
The Wapato - Toppenish chapter, "Dollars for Scholars" held their fifth annual golf tournament at the Mount Adams Country Club in Toppenish.
Event organizers say the event helps with the rising costs in college tuition, "It's such a popular sport, you know you see a lot of golf tournaments going around and we're just fortunate people from Toppenish and Wapato are generous enough to come out and play and try to help us raise some money," says Rudy Sanchez, organizer of the event.
There was also a silent auction to raise more money for the cause. Last year, more than $8,000.00 dollars was raised. Organizers say $1,500 dollar scholarships will be created for students at Toppenish and Wapato high schools.
