YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. -- Nearly 4000 soldiers are in our area for combat field training.
The men and women who are part of the 3rd Stryker Brigade traveled to the Yakima Training Center from Joint Base Lewis - McChord. This weekend and next week they will take part in a series of exercises such as firing guided missiles at targets and calling into combat fire on the ground and in A - 10 warthog planes.
Commanders of the exercise say what happens here doesn't get any more real than actually being in war, "you loose yourself in the moment. That's the sign of good training. Training should be as realistic as you can make it. Because, the good thing about training is I don't lose lives, I get a chance to learn from mistakes," explains Lt. Col. James Dunivan
Some of the other training this week will also include anti- tank guided missile live fire exercise firing high explosive anti - tank rounds at targets.
At today's training, specially guided shells launched to certain pre-planned targets. The 3rd Stryker Brigade will be deployed this summer.
